Step back from the meal plans and the argument in The Paleo Solution rests on a single, provocative idea: our genes carry an older set of instructions than the world we now live in. Evolution is slow, and the changes wrought by agriculture and industry have been fast — a few hundred generations of farming, a couple of generations of processed food, against the vast backdrop of the Paleolithic. Wolf's whole case is a claim about mismatch. The illnesses that fill our clinics, in this view, aren't random breakdowns or the inevitable cost of aging.
