"Power thinking" involves mastering three key areas: reasoning, or thoughtful decision-making; insight, or the ability to generate innovative ideas; and self-knowledge, or understanding one's own beliefs. Enhancing these thinking skills can improve decision-making, problem-solving, and creativity, leading to better leadership and a competitive edge.

In the realm of the conscious mind, where the intricate process of decision-making and problem-solving unfolds, lies the domain of reasoning. This is a space where individuals, particularly those who are adept at leveraging their cognitive capabilities, engage in a rigorous process of thought to arrive at well-considered conclusions.
These individuals, known as power thinkers, excel in utilizing four distinct internal processes to generate thoughts of superior quality, which subsequently guide them in taking four purposeful external actions based on their decisions.
One of the internal processes involves acting as arbitrators, who play a crucial role in facilitating negotiations and resolving conflicts through dialogue rather than exerting authority.
A proficient arbitrator possesses the unique ability to handle conflicting viewpoints with grace, perform under pressure, exhibit discretion and integrity, and maintain a fair-minded approach towards crafting solutions.
When confronted with a novel idea, power thinkers do not hastily dismiss it. Instead, they adopt the stance of an arbitrator, meticulously weighing the advantages and disadvantages of the idea. Their primary aim is to act in the best interest of the individual or the organization, rather than favoring allies or penalizing adversaries.
Power thinkers approach new ideas with an objective lens, always seeking ways to enhance the initial concept presented to them. Another key internal process is that of becoming unconstricted thinkers, who are characterized by their absence of self-imposed limitations. These individuals do not allow their past knowledge or experiences to hinder their decision-making capabilities.
Power thinkers evaluate each new idea based on its own merits, rather than viewing it through the prism of their accumulated experiences. This approach enables them to embrace the complexities and ambiguities inherent in new ideas, and to consider each decision as a unique opportunity rather than a repetition of past scenarios.
02Awareness realm
Insight represents the capacity to understand and act intuitively without the necessity for conscious deliberation. Individuals who are considered power thinkers are distinguished by their remarkable ability to apply insight across various tasks. They employ a combination of three internal cognitive processes and four external actions to infuse their endeavors with insightful thinking.
The first internal cognitive process involves individuals who are adept at making decisions promptly once they feel they have gathered enough information to satisfy their personal criteria. These individuals do not wait for external cues or the opinions of others to feel prepared to make a decision. Instead, they trust their own internal reasoning and judgment. When they decide on a course of action, they proceed with confidence. However, they are also attuned to their subconscious, which may signal hesitation or unease, prompting them to seek additional information until they feel secure in their decision-making.
To enhance one's ability to make decisions more readily, it is beneficial to find moments of solitude away from the distractions of the workplace to better listen to one's inner voice. Engaging in brief periods of daydreaming can help surface subconscious thoughts, while setting aside specific times to ponder challenges can free the mind to explore potential solutions. It is also useful to reflect on past decisions that have led to successful outcomes, identifying the internal signals that indicated a good decision was made, and being vigilant for these signals in future decision-making processes.

Self-knowledge emerges as a complex amalgamation of experience, strategic thinking, and profound insight. Individuals who are adept at wielding this powerful combination, often referred to as power thinkers, achieve remarkable success both on a personal and organizational level. They employ a set of four internal and four external processes to consistently leverage and manifest self-knowledge.
Among the internal mental strategies employed by power thinkers is the practice of being valid viewers. These individuals possess a keen awareness of their strengths and weaknesses. This accurate self-assessment propels them to devise strategies that mitigate their shortcomings. Power thinkers maintain their self-esteem and approach life with a realistic outlook. To enhance one's ability to view oneself validly, it is essential to identify and embrace one's core values and beliefs, which serve as a source of motivation and passion. Continuously building self-esteem by celebrating personal achievements and eliminating self-imposed limitations through positive self-talk are crucial steps. Furthermore, nurturing a sense of self by recognizing that past failures do not dictate future outcomes can empower individuals to embrace change positively.
Another internal process involves being receptive realists. These individuals acknowledge their limitations in knowledge and maintain an openness to new ideas and alternatives. Despite having a strong set of guiding beliefs, their self-knowledge enables them to thoughtfully evaluate and integrate new concepts into their actions. Becoming more receptive involves welcoming challenges to one's beliefs, allowing personal beliefs to evolve with new evidence, maintaining a high degree of self-confidence to entertain new ideas, periodically validating one's belief system, and understanding the impact of one's belief system on leadership success.
04Synthesizing components
Embarking on a six-week journey to enhance your cognitive capabilities and refine your existing patterns of thought is commendable. To broaden your intellectual prowess, it is advisable to concentrate your efforts rather than dispersing them across multiple objectives. Achieving optimal outcomes is more likely when you focus on a singular domain at a time, selecting one or two cognitive processes within that domain for improvement.
There are several approaches to selecting a domain: you might choose the area where you perceive the greatest need for improvement, opt for the domain where you already excel to further amplify your strengths, or methodically address each of the three domains in succession, dedicating time to enhance each one.
Making a deliberate effort to advance in your chosen area is crucial. It is generally understood that establishing a new thinking habit requires approximately six weeks. Therefore, commit to persisting with your new cognitive approach for at least this duration. Initially, the effort required to adopt a new way of thinking may be palpable, but after six weeks, you should find that a new pattern has been established, operating automatically without the need for conscious effort. It is essential to maintain your commitment until this transition occurs.
Creating visual cues can serve as effective reminders of your new strategic approach. Placing an index card with your chosen strategy in a frequently viewed location can help reinforce your new pattern of thought. Over time, this new habit of thinking should become deeply ingrained in your psyche, functioning autonomously rather than necessitating deliberate effort.
Monitoring your progress over time is also beneficial. Keeping a broader perspective in mind, develop metrics that reflect your thought patterns and observe how these indicators evolve. This practice is likely to significantly boost your self-confidence.
