Born in Wrocław in 1897, Norbert Elias was a German sociologist who later became a British citizen. He is best known for his influential theory of civilizing and decivilizing processes, a framework that reshaped how scholars understand the long-term transformation of human behavior and social norms. He died in Amsterdam in 1990.
