Daniel Arasse

Daniel Arasse (1944–2003) was a French art historian whose work centered on the Renaissance and Italian art. Born in Algiers to art critic Henriette Arasse, he built a distinguished scholarly career that combined close visual analysis with cultural history. His 1992 study Le Détail, Pour une histoire rapprochée de la peinture earned the Charles-Blanc Prize in 1993, while La Guillotine et L'imaginaire de la Terreur (1987) reached an anglophone audience as The Guillotine and the Terror in 1989.
He died in Paris in December 2003.
