About the author

Patrick Jake O'Rourke (1947-2022) was an American political satirist, journalist, and author who established himself as one of the most prominent conservative humorists of the late twentieth century. Born in Toledo, Ohio, O'Rourke graduated from Miami University and Johns Hopkins University, where he studied English literature. He began his career as editor-in-chief of the National Lampoon before transitioning to political journalism and commentary.

His expertise lay in combining sharp wit with astute political observation, producing works that examined American culture, politics, and social mores through a satirical lens. Notable publications prior to "Age and Guile" include "Modern Manners," "Republican Party Reptile," and "Parliament of Whores," establishing him as a distinctive voice in contemporary American political humor and social criticism. O'Rourke's writing style consistently maintained intellectual credibility while fundamentally altering his political commitments, using his satirical voice as a mechanism for managing ideological transition and preserving cultural consistency throughout his political evolution.
