Dan Ariely, born in 1967 in New York City, is an Israeli-American behavioral economist and professor of business administration at Duke University whose work on irrational human decision-making has reached well beyond academia. Author of three New York Times bestsellers — Predictably Irrational, The Upside of Irrationality, and The Honest Truth about Dishonesty — he also co-founded companies applying behavioral science insights and wrote the Wall Street Journal advice column "Ask Ariely" for a decade. His research inspired the 2023 NBC series The Irrational and the 2015 documentary (Dis)Honesty: The Truth About Lies.
