Vivek Murthy, born July 10, 1977, in Huddersfield, is an American physician who served as the 19th and 21st Surgeon General of the United States, holding the office from 2015 to 2017 under President Barack Obama and again from 2021 to 2025 under President Joe Biden. The first Surgeon General of Indian descent, he was also the youngest active-duty flag officer in federal uniformed service during his first term. He co-chaired President-elect Biden's COVID-19 Advisory Board in 2020–2021 and was later nominated as the U.
S. representative to the WHO executive board.
