About the author

Tim Jackson, born in London in 1965 and educated at City of London School and Merton College, Oxford, made his mark as a pioneer of European e-commerce by founding QXL.com, an online auction service that went public in 1999 at roughly $400 million. The company eventually merged with German rival Ricardo, was rebranded as Tradus, and sold to African media group Naspers for around $2 billion in 2007.

He subsequently served as managing director of Carlyle Internet Partners Europe and was named a World Economic Forum Global Leader of Tomorrow in 2001. He has also written several books and leads Walking Ventures, a seed fund backing early-stage European tech startups.
