Thomas Piketty, born in Clichy in 1971, is the French economist who turned the study of inequality into a global conversation. A professor at EHESS and the Paris School of Economics, and Centennial Professor at the London School of Economics, he argues that capital returns persistently outpace economic growth, driving wealth concentration ever upward. His 2013 bestseller Capital in the Twenty-First Century drew on 250 years of data to make that case; Capital and Ideology (2019) extended the analysis across societies, while A Brief History of Equality (2022) brought his ideas to a general audience.
