About the author
Thomas Gordon (1918–2002) was an American psychologist. A student of Carl Rogers and Abraham Maslow, pioneers of the helping relationship and of communication, he belonged to the humanistic psychology movement. In his many books he proposed a new approach to communication — simple, effective and respectful of everyone’s needs — widely known as the Gordon Method.
It aims to resolve conflicts by building a “win-win” relationship through a new way of speaking with one another. He received a gold medal for his outstanding contribution to psychology in the public interest.
