Silvanus P. Thompson
About the author
Silvanus Phillips Thompson (1851–1916) was an English professor of physics at the City and Guilds Technical College in Finsbury, whose influence has outlasted his era through sheer readability. Elected to the Royal Society in 1891, he made his mark as both an electrical engineer and a prolific author. His 1910 book Calculus Made Easy remains his most enduring achievement, still in print for its accessible treatment of infinitesimal calculus.
He also wrote Elementary Lessons in Electricity and Magnetism and biographies of Lord Kelvin and Michael Faraday.
