Peter Hollins

Peter Hollins (1800–1886) was an English sculptor whose long career bridged classical and Romantic traditions, producing more than sixty major works ranging from ecclesiastical and architectural pieces to public statues, including those of Sir Robert Peel and Dr Jephson. Based in Birmingham rather than London, he worked somewhat outside the mainstream, yet his finest output has been judged comparable in quality to that of Francis Chantrey. Hollins was also a central figure in Birmingham's artistic community, serving as a long-standing vice-president of the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists and playing a key role in securing its Royal Charter in 1868.
