James Lord (1922-2009) was an American writer, art critic, and memoirist renowned for his intimate portraits of twentieth-century artistic figures. Educated at Wesleyan University, Lord established himself as a perceptive chronicler of the Parisian art world through his friendships with major artists including Pablo Picasso, Jean Cocteau, and Alberto Giacometti.
