Jacques Ellul
About the author
Jacques Ellul (1912–1994) was a French philosopher, sociologist, lay theologian, and resistance fighter whose work centered on a single urgent question: what does modern technology do to human freedom? A longtime professor at the University of Bordeaux, he authored more than 60 books and 600 articles, approaching technology and human action from a dialectical, sociological standpoint. Identified as a Christian anarchist, he argued not for rejecting technology but for recognizing it as a tool rather than an unchallenged regulator of life.
His most influential works include The Technological Society and Propaganda: The Formation of Men's Attitudes.
