Georges Duby

Georges Duby (1919–1996) ranks among the most influential medieval historians of the twentieth century. A French scholar specialising in the social and economic history of the Middle Ages, he rose from the 1970s onward to become one of France's most prominent public intellectuals, bringing rigorous historical thinking to a broad audience. His stature was confirmed posthumously when his work was included in the prestigious Bibliothèque de la Pléiade in 2019.
