George Mosse

About the author

George Mosse (1918–1999) was a German-born Jewish-American social and cultural historian whose life trajectory — flight from Nazi Germany to Britain, then to the United States — shaped his life's work. A professor at the University of Iowa, the University of Wisconsin–Madison, and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, he became best known for his penetrating studies of Nazism, while also ranging across constitutional history, Protestant theology, and the history of masculinity in more than 25 books. In 1966, he co-founded The Journal of Contemporary History with Walter Laqueur.
