Frantz Fanon
About the author
Frantz Fanon (1925–1961), born in the French colony of Martinique and trained as a psychiatrist, became the most influential anticolonial thinker of his era. His work on the psychopathology of colonization and the human consequences of decolonization shaped post-colonial studies and critical theory for decades. A political radical and Pan-Africanist, he supported the Algerian War of independence and joined the Algerian National Liberation Front.
His ideas have inspired liberation movements across South Africa, Sri Lanka, and the United States. He also helped found the field of institutional psychotherapy.
