About the author

Frances Moore Lappé is an American researcher and author on food and democracy policy, best known for her 1971 book Diet for a Small Planet, which sold 2.5 million copies and was described by the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History as "one of the most influential political tracts of the times." She has co-founded three organizations exploring the roots of hunger, poverty, and environmental crises, and has authored or co-authored 20 books including Daring Democracy and Crisis of Trust.

In 1987, she received the Right Livelihood Award for revealing the political and economic causes of world hunger and how citizens can address them.
