David Bellos
About the author
David Bellos (1945–2025) was a British academic, translator, and biographer whose career centred on the intersections of language, literature, and culture. He held the Meredith Howland Pyne professorship in French and comparative literature at Princeton University, where he also co-founded and served as the first director of the translation and intercultural communication program, a role he assumed from 2007. Born in Rochford and dying in Doussard, Bellos brought scholarly rigour and broad humanistic range to the study of translation as both practice and discipline.
