Kamer Daron Acemoğlu, a Turkish-American economist of Armenian descent born in Istanbul in 1967, has been a towering figure in political economy, development economics, and labor economics. A professor at MIT since 1993, he holds the Elizabeth and James Killian chair and was named an Institute Professor in 2019. He received the John Bates Clark Medal in 2005 and the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences in 2024, shared with Simon Johnson and James A.
