About the author
Claude Meillassoux (1925–2005) was a French neo-Marxist economic anthropologist and Africanist whose work combined rigorous fieldwork with lifelong political commitment. In the 1970s he entered a notable theoretical debate by challenging Marshall Sahlins's use of the concept of the "domestic mode of production.
" Throughout his career, Meillassoux remained a consistent and engaged critic of social injustice.
