Branko Milanović

About the author

Born in Yugoslavia in 1953, Branko Milanović is a Serbian-American economist and university professor whose career has been defined by a singular focus: understanding income distribution and inequality. He completed his Ph.D.

at the University of Belgrade in 1987, pioneering the use of micro data from Yugoslav household surveys. A former lead economist at the World Bank, he has held positions at Johns Hopkins, the University of Maryland, and Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. He is currently a research professor at CUNY's Graduate Center and also teaches at the London School of Economics and the Barcelona Institute for International Studies.
