Benjamin Stora

About the author

Born in Constantine in 1950 into a Jewish family that left Algeria following its War of Independence in 1962, Benjamin Stora brings a deeply personal dimension to his scholarship. A French historian widely regarded as one of the world's foremost authorities on Algerian history, he has devoted his career to untangling the complex legacies of North Africa's colonial past. Stora holds two PhDs, earned in 1974 and 1984, as well as a Doctorate of the State awarded in 1991.
