Born in Brussels in 1950, Antoine Compagnon holds two of the most prestigious chairs in French literary studies simultaneously: Professor of French Literature at the Collège de France in Paris, a position he has occupied since 2006, and the Blanche W. Knopf Professor of French and Comparative Literature at Columbia University in New York, where he has taught since 1985. His dual transatlantic appointment places him at the intersection of French and American intellectual life, making him a central figure in the academic study of French and comparative literature.
