Amin Maalouf
About the author
Born in Beirut in 1949, Amin Maalouf is a Lebanese-French author who has lived in France since 1976. Writing in French despite Arabic being his native language, he has built a body of work translated into over 40 languages. His nonfiction study The Crusades Through Arab Eyes remains his best-known work of that kind, while his novel The Rock of Tanios earned him the Prix Goncourt in 1993.
He also received the 2010 Prince of Asturias Award for Literature. A member of the Académie française, he was elected its Perpetual Secretary in September 2023.
