Alison Gopnik

Alison Gopnik, born in Philadelphia in 1955, is a professor of psychology and affiliate professor of philosophy at the University of California, Berkeley, where she is also a member of the Berkeley AI research group. A leading figure in cognitive and language development, she studies how language shapes thought, how children develop a theory of mind, and how causal learning works. Equally distinguished as a writer, she contributed a monthly column to The Wall Street Journal from 2013 to 2023 and has published over 160 journal articles and four books.
