Alain Badiou

About the author

Born in Rabat in 1937, Alain Badiou is a French philosopher who served as chair of Philosophy at the École Normale Supérieure and co-founded the philosophy faculty at the Université de Paris VIII alongside Gilles Deleuze, Michel Foucault, and Jean-François Lyotard. His work draws heavily on mathematics — particularly set theory and category theory — to address questions of being, truth, event, and the subject. Where his contemporaries embraced linguistic relativism, Badiou insists on universalism and truth, and he remains a prominent advocate for communism as a living political force.
