William Goldman (1931-2018) was an American novelist, playwright, and screenwriter who became one of Hollywood's most influential and candid observers. After graduating from Oberlin College and earning a master's degree from Columbia University, Goldman initially pursued novel writing, producing works such as *The Temple of Gold* and *Boys and Girls Together*. His transition to screenwriting proved transformative, earning him Academy Awards for *Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid* (1969) and *All the President's Men* (1976). Beyond his screenwriting achievements, Goldman authored several novels including the acclaimed *Marathon Man* and *The Princess Bride*.
