Steven D. Levitt

Steven D. Levitt, born in New Orleans in 1967, is an American economist best known as co-author of the blockbuster Freakonomics and its sequels, written with Stephen J. Dubner.

A professor emeritus at the University of Chicago, he won the 2003 John Bates Clark Medal for his work on crime economics and was named one of Time magazine's "100 People Who Shape Our World" in 2006. A 2011 peer survey ranked him the fourth favorite living economist under 60. In 2009, he co-founded TGG Group, a business and philanthropy consulting firm.
