Saskia Sassen

Born in The Hague in 1947, Saskia Sassen is a Dutch-American sociologist whose work has shaped how the world understands globalization and international human migration. She holds professorships at Columbia University and the London School of Economics. Sassen coined and popularized the term "global city" in her landmark 1991 book The Global City: New York, London, Tokyo, a concept that has since become foundational to urban studies and social science.
