Paul Veyne

About the author

Paul Veyne (1930–2022) was a French historian and leading specialist in Ancient Rome. Educated at the prestigious École Normale Supérieure in Paris, he went on to work at the École française de Rome at the Palazzo Farnese from 1955 to 1957, before building a distinguished academic career that culminated in an honorary professorship at the Collège de France. Born in Aix-en-Provence and dying in Bédoin, Veyne spent nearly a century leaving a significant mark on the study of antiquity.
