Born in Chicago in 1954, Leonard Mlodinow is an American theoretical physicist, mathematician, and author whose work spans rigorous science and popular writing with unusual range. In physics, he is known for contributions to the large N expansion and the quantum theory of light in dielectrics. Five of his books have reached the New York Times bestseller list, including The Drunkard's Walk, co-authored titles with Stephen Hawking and Deepak Chopra, and Subliminal, which won the 2013 PEN/E.
