François Furet

François Furet (1927–1997) was a French historian whose revisionist interpretations of the French Revolution made him one of the most influential scholars of his generation. A professor of French history at the University of Chicago from 1985 until his death, he also served as president of the Saint-Simon Foundation. Elected to the Académie française in March 1997, he died just three months later in Toulouse.

His work fundamentally reshaped how historians understand and debate the revolutionary period.
