Born in Saint-Germain-en-Laye in 1951, Emmanuel Todd is a French historian, anthropologist, demographer, and political scientist at the National Institute of Demographic Studies (INED) in Paris. His research centers on family structures across the world, examining how they shape beliefs, ideologies, political systems, and historical developments — an unusually wide-ranging framework that cuts across disciplinary boundaries. He has also written a number of political essays that have attracted broad attention in France.
