Ellen J. Langer

Ellen Jane Langer is an American psychologist and professor of psychology at Harvard University, where she became the first woman to be tenured in psychology in 1981. Her research focuses on the illusion of control, decision-making, aging, and mindfulness theory. Her most influential work, Counterclockwise (2009), presents her mind/body unity theory, while her 2023 book The Mindful Body: Thinking Our Way to Chronic Health explores the role of mind/body unity in controlling chronic health.
