Sir Edward Evan Evans-Pritchard (1902–1973) was an English anthropologist widely regarded as a foundational figure in the development of social anthropology. Born in Sussex and educated in the British academic tradition, he served as Professor of Social Anthropology at the University of Oxford from 1946 to 1970, a tenure that cemented his influence on the discipline. A Fellow of the British Academy and of the Royal Anthropological Institute, he shaped how generations of scholars approached the study of human societies.
