Claude Nicolet (1930–2010) was a French historian whose scholarly career centered on the institutions and political ideas of ancient Rome. Born in Marseille, he became one of the leading specialists of his generation in Roman history, bringing rigorous analytical attention to the structures of republican governance and civic life in antiquity. He died in Paris on 24 December 2010.
