Chantal Mouffe

About the author

Born in 1943, Chantal Mouffe is a Belgian political theorist teaching at the University of Westminster. She is best known for her work alongside Ernesto Laclau in developing the Essex School of discourse analysis. A sharp critic of deliberative democracy, she advocates instead for a conflict-oriented model of radical democracy — a framework that has made her one of the more provocative voices in contemporary political theory.
