About the author
Born in New York City on November 28, 1936, Carol Gilligan is an American feminist, ethicist, and psychologist whose challenge to Lawrence Kohlberg's stages of moral development reshaped how scholars think about ethics. Her landmark 1982 book In a Different Voice made her the originator of the ethics of care — a framework centered on ethical relationships and community.
