Arjun Appadurai

Born in Mumbai in 1949, Arjun Appadurai is an Indian-American anthropologist recognized as a major theorist in globalization studies and an elected fellow of both the Royal Anthropological Institute and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. His work examines modernity, nation-states, and the dynamics of globalization, with landmark publications including *Modernity at Large* (1996) and *Fear of Small Numbers* (2006). He has held senior academic positions at the University of Chicago, Yale, The New School, and NYU, where he is currently professor emeritus of Media, Culture, and Communication.
