Ann Laura Stoler

Ann Laura Stoler (born 1949) holds the Willy Brandt Distinguished University Professorship in Anthropology and Historical Studies at The New School for Social Research in New York City. A leading voice in colonial and postcolonial studies, historical anthropology, feminist theory, and affect, she is especially known for her engagement with Michel Foucault's thought on race and sexuality. Her major works include Race and the Education of Desire (1995), Carnal Knowledge and Imperial Power (2002), Along the Archival Grain (2009), and Duress: Imperial Durabilities in Our Times (2016).
