André Burguière
About the author
André Burguière (1938–2026) was a French historian and academic who spent his career as a longtime director of studies at the School for Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences. Alongside his scholarly work, he remained politically engaged, affiliated with the Unified Socialist Party and lending his public voice to presidential campaigns — writing in Le Nouvel Observateur in support of Ségolène Royal in 2007 and François Hollande in 2012. He died in Paris on 22 January 2026, at the age of 87.
