Section 1: academic background

Wealthy individuals prioritize their education in financial matters, aiming to enhance their financial literacy. This involves acquiring a deep understanding of investment terminology and the ability to interpret and apply financial figures in a meaningful manner. Financial literacy encompasses three fundamental components.

Wealthy investors adopt a specific mindset towards investing, which includes setting personal priorities. For the majority, there are three primary concerns: achieving security, attaining comfort, and amassing wealth. Typically, people prefer the assurance of security and comfort over the pursuit of wealth. However, for affluent investors, the journey to wealth begins when the goal of becoming wealthy ascends to their top priority in life.

Furthermore, affluent individuals perceive the world as abundant rather than scarce. Unlike many who view financial resources as limited, leading to a scarcity mindset, wealthy investors understand that the world is filled with ample monetary resources that gravitate towards viable ventures. This abundance mindset enables them to plan financially for both lean and prosperous times.

Investing holds different meanings for various individuals. Wealthy investors are aware that biases exist towards certain investments due to personal preferences or lack of knowledge about other investment options. They recognize that investment advice is often subjective, reflecting personal preferences. True investing is seen as a strategic journey from one financial state to another, requiring a plan that dictates the most suitable investment vehicles for achieving financial goals.

The vocabulary of wealth also distinguishes the affluent from the less financially successful. The expansion of one's financial vocabulary is crucial for wealth accumulation. Wealthy investors are proficient in the language of finance, including investing, money management, accounting, corporate law, and taxation. This expertise aids in the development of comprehensive long-term financial plans.

Section 2: professional background

Wealthy individuals possess a profound understanding of how to initiate and cultivate prosperous enterprises, which they prefer to own rather than merely work within. This expertise also empowers them to discern which emerging businesses have the potential for success, making them worthy of investment.

At the heart of every triumphant business lies a trio of foundational elements. The first of these is the Mission. While the primary aim of any business is to generate profit, this objective alone is insufficient to fuel the passion, drive, and resilience needed to navigate the myriad challenges that surface, especially in the nascent stages of a business. A robust and clear mission is essential for enduring these trials.

The most impactful business missions carry a spiritual essence. Take, for instance, Henry Ford, whose vision was to make automobiles accessible not only to the affluent but to the general populace. His mission, encapsulated by the phrase “Democratize the automobile,” led to the establishment of a company that resonated deeply with consumers. In the early days, a founder’s spirit and mission are often the sole sustenance for the business. It becomes evident to customers interacting with the business whether its focus is on merely making sales or genuinely addressing their needs. Businesses that thrive do so not because of a mere desire to increase revenue but due to their commitment to meeting and serving customer needs.

The second element is a Management Team. Business, akin to investing, is a collective endeavor. The most successful entrepreneurs understand the importance of not going it alone. They assemble teams comprising individuals who work collaboratively towards success. This team includes accountants, lawyers, brokers, financial advisors, insurance agents, and bankers. While not all team members are involved in the day-to-day operations, their intimate knowledge of the business details allows them to offer timely advice and specialized expertise. For new businesses, the team's significance is magnified as investors place their bets on the management. The team becomes a crucial part of the overall management structure, with investors assessing the team's experience, passion, and commitment before making investment decisions.

Section 3: surplus funds

Wealthy individuals meticulously organize their professional endeavors to ensure they have a minimum of three diverse and robust streams of revenue. These include passive income, which is the return on tangible assets; portfolio income, which is the return on financial instruments such as stocks and bonds; and earned income, which is derived from their professional business activities. This strategic financial structure allows them to cover their living expenses comfortably while simultaneously generating surplus funds for investment purposes.

In stark contrast, individuals with limited financial resources often exhibit a straightforward pattern of cash flow. Every cent earned is immediately allocated to meet living expenses, leaving no surplus for investment or savings. This hand-to-mouth existence precludes the accumulation of wealth and perpetuates a cycle of financial precarity.

Individuals belonging to the middle-income bracket display a distinct pattern of cash flow. As they climb the ladder of success, they inadvertently accumulate debt. Each salary increment enables them to borrow additional funds, which they use to upgrade their lifestyle with superior vehicles, homes, and other luxury items. Consequently, a portion of their income is dedicated to current expenditures, while the remainder is channeled towards servicing personal debt.

The cash flow pattern of affluent individuals is markedly different. They astutely convert a majority of their personal expenses into business expenses, which are then covered by their respective business entities. This savvy financial maneuver allows them to use their income to acquire or develop additional assets, which in turn generate further passive and portfolio income.

The benefits of the cash flow pattern employed by the wealthy are manifold. Firstly, it creates a positive feedback loop where the accumulation of tangible and financial assets leads to increased passive and portfolio income. This, in turn, facilitates the creation of more assets in the future, propelling a cycle of continuous growth. Secondly, the wealthy redefine the concept of an asset. Unlike the middle class, who view their purchases such as homes and cars as assets, the wealthy consider only those things that contribute to their income as assets. This perspective drives them to focus on acquiring or developing assets that they can manage and leverage tax laws to minimize personal tax liabilities by converting as much earned income as possible into passive and portfolio incomes.
