James Brien Comey Jr., born in 1960, is an American lawyer and former law enforcement official who served as the seventh Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation from 2013 to 2017. A graduate of the College of William and Mary and the University of Chicago Law School, Comey built his career in federal prosecution and national security law.
Prior to his FBI tenure, he served as Deputy Attorney General under President George W. Bush from 2003 to 2005 and as U.S.
Attorney for the Southern District of New York. His legal expertise encompasses organized crime, terrorism, and corporate fraud investigations. Before "A Higher Loyalty," Comey's professional contributions were primarily through legal briefs, congressional testimonies, and policy memoranda rather than published academic works.
