Gary Williams
About the author
Gary Williams, born in Wolverhampton on 17 June 1960, is a former professional footballer who made his name as a left-back at Aston Villa during one of the club's most celebrated eras. Joining as a schoolboy and signing as an apprentice in 1976, he became one of only 14 players used by Ron Saunders in Villa's League championship season, and featured in both the 1982 European Cup final — where his pass initiated the move that produced Peter Withe's winning goal — and the European Super Cup victory over Barcelona. He later played for Leeds United, Watford, and Bradford City.
