Elbert Green Hubbard (1856-1915) was an American writer, publisher, artist, and philosopher who emerged as a prominent figure in the Arts and Crafts movement. After a successful career in business, he founded the Roycroft artisan community in East Aurora, New York, where he published numerous works through his Roycroft Press. A self-taught intellectual influenced by William Morris and John Ruskin, Hubbard authored several philosophical treatises including 'The Philistine' magazine series and 'Little Journeys to the Homes of Great Men' before penning his most famous work in 1899.
