About the author

Carl Rogers (1902-1987) stands as one of the most influential figures in humanistic psychology and psychotherapy. Educated at Columbia University where he received his doctorate in clinical psychology, Rogers initially worked within traditional psychoanalytic frameworks before developing his revolutionary person-centered approach. His academic career spanned prestigious institutions including Ohio State University, the University of Chicago, and the University of Wisconsin.

Prior to "A Way of Being" (1980), Rogers established his theoretical foundation through seminal works including "Counseling and Psychotherapy" (1942), "Client-Centered Therapy" (1951), and "On Becoming a Person" (1961). His contributions fundamentally transformed therapeutic practice by emphasizing the inherent capacity for growth within individuals and the importance of genuine human relationships in facilitating psychological healing.
